About MeConventicles were small group gatherings of Christians, who came from various Pietistic traditions. They sought to supplement the worship life of the local congregation by providing space for Bible study, prayer, and mutual edification among Christians.
This blog is devoted to providing such space in electronic format, promoting greater knowledge of Christian history, especially my areas of interest: American Lutheran history and Christian hymnody. I also post here various things I have written for my congregation. I currently serve as the pastor of Grace Lutheran Church in Thornville, Ohio as well as part time as Assistant Professor of History at the Institute of Lutheran Theology, an online Lutheran college, seminary, and graduate school. I previously served as the pastor of Lutheran congregations in Nebraska and Minnesota as well as a Vikar (intern pastor) in Wittenberg and Leipzig, Germany (2004-2005) at the St. Thomas (Lutheran) Church, the congregation of the great composer Johann Sebastian Bach. I am married with three children. A native of Minnesota, I studied at Augustana University in Sioux Falls, South Dakota (B.A., 2002), Luther Seminary in St. Paul, Minnesota (M.Div., 2006), and again at Luther Seminary (Ph.D., 2018). Above all, I am a child of God by His grace (Eph. 2:8). |
